Actor Kevin Spacey Calls For Sikh Voices

by JULIA KENNARD

A theatre run by double Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey needs people from Sikh and other subcontinental backgrounds to help create a snapshot of London in 2010.

The Old Vic Theatre wants voices from all backgrounds to take part in its PLATFORM community project, which aims to give a true representation of what the city means to its inhabitants.

The project will culminate in performances in The Old Vic Tunnels beneath Waterloo Station; a labyrinth of vaults and chambers measuring 2,500 square feet.

But community manager Alex Ferris said the project was missing vital voices from the subcontinent region and East Asian people living in South West London.

Mr Ferris said he wanted to give them the chance to have their say about what it's like to live, work, grow up, leave and arrive in the capital.

He said: "We want to capture the dynamic of London but we are missing some important input from the Sikh and Indian community; they form a crucial part of life in London and we don't want to miss them.

"We also need more people from South West London to come forward and offer their opinoins."

Mr Ferris said their experiences would be woven together to create a new play.

Open auditions will be held later in the year and the play will be performed in November.

Kevin Spacey, artistic director at the Old Vic, said: "PLATFORM is the chance for Londoners to create a new play that will be performed in our breathtaking space, The Old Vic Tunnels.

"We're putting our community centre stage and want to hear from Londoners of every background."
