The Month of Maagh
[January 13 - February 12]
Poems translated from Punjabi by GURMEET KAUR
1 Guru Nanak [Raag Tukhaari, GGS:1109]
In the month of Maagh – ruminative
I make
A journey
Inside
Of me
In stillness
To be
Virtuous,
Free of filth,
And One with thee
Imbued in thy glory
If I please thee
I would have
Bathed
The pious pools verily ...
... The Ganges
The Yamuna
The confluences
And
The seven seas
All things sacred
Good deeds, alms,
Worship
And many a
Pilgrimage
Says Nanak:
In contemplation
Sweet nectar pours
I dip in
An ultimate bliss
In the month of Maagh - ruminative
2 Guru Arjan [Raag Maajh, GGS:136]
In the month of Maagh - ruminative
Cleansing
Is humility
In learning from the saintly ones
Contemplation
Of naam
And sharing it with everyone
Redemption
From entrapment
Of karam and ages
From
Greed, lust
Anger and arrogance
Venerated
Are the ones
Walking in righteousness
Credited
With sacred deeds,
Kindness and pilgrimages
Graced
By his mercy
Wisdom they obtain
Sacrifice
Is Nanak
To ones in his embrace
Truthful
They are known
Who enshrine His grace
In the month of Maagh – ruminative

Beautiful. Each word is so pure and reverent.
