The Takht Express
NEWS REPORT
Beijing, China
Rakesh Tandon, managing director of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) announced here the launch of The Takht Express, a luxury train to cover the five great historical gurdwaras which, collectively, serve as the five takhts or seats of temporal authority for the 30 million Sikhs who live around the world.
The train will be flagged off on December 23, 2011 from Chandigarh, Punjab.
Mr Tandon was addressing the travel agents and press in Beijing where he is on a tour to promote his trains among Chinese tourists and travel agents.
Last year, Indian Luxury Trains had chartered a Deccan Odyssey luxury train to cover the Five Takhts. But whereas last year's was a one-time experience, its success and the ever growing demand for it has resulted in this recent announcement by the IRCTC.
The Takht Express will cover the Five Takhts - the Akal Takht (Amritsar, Punjab), Keshgarh Sahib (Anandpur, Punjab), Patna Sahib (Bihar), Hazur Sahib (Nanded, Maharashtra) and Damdama Sahib (Talwandi Sabo, Punjab).

An Indian addressing the Chinese on a railway service for travel in India? Had Sikhs been in charge of their own destiny since 1947, then we would have had Maglev or Bullet trains running decades ago!

I would like to request the sikhchic.com editor to please publish an article on the history and details of each of the Takhts and when they were recognized by the Sikh Panth.
