Tanti Saaj - Stringed Instruments
NOTICE
The Sangat of Richmond, Virginia, U.S.A., will host a camp for all those interested in learning Taanti Saaj (stringed instruments) in performing Kirtan.
The Camp will begin at 9.00 am on Monday June 21, 2010 and end on Saturday, June 26. It will be conducted by Bhai Kuljit Singh.
Instruments that can be taught are the Dilruba, Rebab, Saranda and Sarangi and Sitar.
Requirements
Only students above age of 14 will be considered.
All students must bring their own instruments.
It is preferable that students are able to read Gurmukhi.
There will be a fee of $50 for each student.
We will provide board and lodging for all students. (Those who wish to make their own arrangements are welcome).
For those flying into Richmond, we will arrange to pick them up at the airport and send them off. Please make travel arrangements only after you receive confirmation of your attendance.
We will be taking a maximum of 12 students this year.
Bhai Kuljit Singh is an accomplished
exponent of the Saranda and the Rebab and was taught by his father,
Bhai Gurcharan Singh. Bhai Kuljit SIngh was the resident Granthi
at the historic Gurdwara Sahib in Batala, Punjab, commemorating the site of Guru Nanak's
marriage. He has also been a raagi at Harmandar Sahib in Amritsar.
