What were we and what are we now? We are the only people on earth who prevailed over the ferocious Afghans. We achieved what the mighty powers could not. The British, the Russians and now the Americans, all got defeated in this land of rugged mountains and ferocious fighters. What went wrong with us? We need to do some serious introspection.

Kaala ji, the Macedonians, Arabs, Persians and Mughals all found their way through Afghanistan on their way to India. The mountain range in Afghanistan called "Hindu Kush" roughly translates to "Hindu Slaughter" in Farsi. Today, Afghanistan is a backward country, while Sikhs continue to prosper. Sikhs always remain in chardi kalaa!

Stealing and plundering result in a lazy and corrupt pysche, it effects the bloodline. Working hard, honestly, praising the lord and sharing with others leads to a hardy and successful life and bloodline. Thank you, Waheguru, for our Gurus.

Sometime ago, there was a comparision done with how Hari Singh Nalwa captured, killed the leader of Afghan Jihadis (Hazi XXXX), who was near the Attock river and decided to bury his body in the river instead of burying him (per Islamic customs) in order to avoid turning him into a martyr among the Pushtuns. If this is true, then it sounds very similar to what the US did a few years ago with bin Laden. In my opinion, during those days, Khalsa was in chardi kala because we were clearly, blatantly, oppressed. It was a question of survival and our faith united us. When you don't have any food in your house and have to live in the jungle and survive; there is no one, including your relatives, to support you; then you have no choice but to rise to the occasion. In contrast, today we have big bank balances, monster homes, fancy cars, etc. We and our children are, more often than not, obese, with heart ailments, diabetes, etc. Langars are served with seven courses. We look at our legacy and take pride, but fail to learn from it. I can go on and on ...
