Four Sikh-Canadians Elected:
Ontario, Canada Legislative Assembly

Four Sikh-Canadian have been elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario in Canada, in Thursday (October 6) night's election, which brought back Dalton McGuinty's Liberal Party back in power for an unprecedented third government in a row, albeit as a minority government this time around.

The Liberals narrowly missed majority status by a single seat.

Harinder Singh Takhar, Amrit Kaur Mangat and Vic Singh Dhillon are all Liberal incumbents who have held on to their seats - despite serious setbacks suffered by other incumbents in the party -  and will continue to be part of the governimg party.

In a breakthrough, Jagmeet Singh was elected for the NDP (New Democratic Party), which though in third position in party rankings, will now hold the balance of power because of the minority government legislature.

 

Harinder Singh Takhar, from the riding of Missauga-Erindale, has held several cabinet positions in the past, including as Minister of Transportation, Minister of Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Minister of Small Business and Consumer Services and Minister of Government Services. This is his third term as Member of Provincial Parliament.

Harinder holds a Master's degree in Economics and Political science, and an undergraduate degree in English, Economics and Political science. He has also been designated a Certified Management Accountant

 

Vic Singh Dhillon, representing the riding of Brampton-West for the third term now, holds a degree in Business Administration. He has served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Government Services, and as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister Responsible for Seniors.

 

Amrit Kaur Mangat, now in her second term in the Legislature, represents the riding of Mississauga-Brampton South. She has served as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister Responsible for Seniors, and as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs. 

Amrit holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, a Master's degree in Economics, a Bachelor's in  Education, and a Master's in  Education.

 

Jagmeet Singh is the new MPP for the riding of Bramalea-Gore-Malton.is a criminal defence lawyer and a community advocate.After completing his B.Sc. in Biology, Jagmeet earned an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School and currently practices law.

And talking about nyaara ... at least Harinder Singh Takhar has attempted to emulate the Western look and Jagmeet Singh looks cool in saabat soorat. Poor Vic Dhillon just comes across as confused. He looks like he belongs in the Lok Sabha as opposed to the Parliament Houses in Canada! Perhaps he needs to hire a personal image consultant ...

Perhaps Vic was on his way to the Lok Sabha but got lost instead! Somebody should send him a road map so he can get to Delhi on time.

No, Vic was on the wrestling team, went missing but was seen loitering around the parliament and soon found himself in it, liked the ambience, and decided to hang around. Welcome back, Vic - a Sikh will shine anywhere, given half a chance.
