Solitude
by INNI KAUR
SOLITUDE
In solitude
Away from voraciousness
Sheltered by the Crest
I bloom in synchronization.
Away from impious eyes
I sway like a reed.
Totally content.
Totally serene.
Dewdrop's kiss.
Sunlight's passion
Moonlight's tenderness
Embraces me.
Hot winds blow;
I lie low.
Protected by the Crest
I'm cosseted.
But -
My fragrance,
Betrays me.
Hunters appear.
Solitude shattered.
Hands caress.
I quiver.
Discovered.
Defiled.
Destroyed.
Why?
All I sought,
Was solitude.

'Binafasha da Phul' - 'The Violet Flower' by Bhai Vir Singh, comes to mind: "I feed myself on heaven's dews, With sun is fulled my life's bowl, At night the moonlight sweetens the frangrance of my soul, The winds, in their pitiless fury, hug me, break my bones, I lie low in their highways, and make no moans, I seek to live in solitude, And wither and cease, But the eyes of the scent-crusher seek me, And break my peace" Thus Bhai Sahib sought the tender compassion of the world to let him alone. Thank you, Inni, for sharing your compassionate refrain.
