Obama to Host State Visit by Manmohan Singh, Gursharan Kaur

NEWS REPORTS

U.S. President Barack Obama will host Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the White House on November 24, 2009, for the first official visit of his presidency, the White House has said.

"This visit will be the first state visit of the administration and will highlight the strong and growing strategic partnership between the United States and India, and the friendship between the American and Indian people," the White House said in a statement on Friday.

During the visit, the Obama and Manmohan Singh are expected to discuss a range of global, regional, and bilateral issues of shared interest and common concern.

The two leaders will also likely discuss the strategic dialogue that was launched in July during the visit of the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to India and review progress made in the dialogue.

Obama and the First Lady, Michelle, will also host Manmohan Singh and his wife, Gursharan Kaur, for an official state dinner on the night of November 24, it said.

"President Obama looks forward to welcoming Prime Minister Singh to Washington and working with him to strengthen and enhance their partnership for the benefit of the people of both nations, and the world," the White House said.

This is the best time and opportunity for Sikh leaders to show unity by welcoming the PM so that the turban can be recognized by the mainstream media of U.S.A. and the average person in America can learn a bit about Sikhs and their turban.

On the same day, tha Sikh Nation shall be celebrating the Shaheedi of the Ninth Master, Guru Tegh Bahadar: the only religious leader in the history of Man who gave his life for the freedom of others to practice their own religion of choice.

I am a Sikh-American living in the U.S. since 1960. Seeing the photo of our (Sardar) Dr. Manmohan Singh and the U.S. President, I felt humbled and proud to be a Sardar. I read the article more than once and every time I read I felt Goo-o-d. I mean really GOOD! It makes me proud to be a Sikh and I'm very pleased that our Sikh brother is the Prime Minister of India and is doing such a great job.

We now have an opportunity to make poverty in India a thing of history by eradicating this type brand of terrorism in velvet gloves! One must take care of the marginalized if one is to have real peace in the world. For once, we have a man - Sardar Manmohan Singh - at the helm who can do this.
