INNI KAUR

Today’s Hukam, Darbar Sahib, Amritsar - Tuesday, September 23, 2014

Children, spouses, men and women in one’s household, are all bound by maya. At the final moment, none shall stand by you; their love is false. || 1 ||

Why do you dote on your body so? It shall disperse like a cloud of smoke; vibrate upon the One, the Beloved Creator. || Pause||

There are three ways in which the body can be consumed -- thrown into water, given to the dogs, or cremated to ashes. You consider yourself to be immortal; you sit in your home, and forget the Creator, the Cause of all causes?|| 2 ||

In various ways, the Creator has fashioned the beads, and strung them on a slender thread. The thread shall break, then, you shall repent and regret. || 3 ||

The Creator created you, and after creating you, adorned you -- meditate on the One Eternal Creator day and night. The Creator has showered mercy upon servant Nanak; I hold tight to the support of the True Guru. || 4 || 4||

[Guru Arjan, Raag Soratth, GGS: 609]

The heart tightens as I listen to today’s Hukam.

The Fifth Master speaks: No earthly relationship will walk with you after you have taken your last breath. When breath leaves, all worldly attachments break. The ones who laughed and talked with you will now be frightened by you. The body that you pampered and fussed over will perish. It could be thrown in water, eaten by animals, buried or cremated. Like a cloud of smoke it will disperse into the skies without a trace.

Knowing this, how can you still sit in your home, believing that you are immortal?

You are living a life of illusion.

Why is that?

Because you have forgotten the One Eternal Creator; the One who gave you this body and your life-breath. When this weak, temporary breath of life breaks, you will regret not having served, brought sweetness on your tongue and spread love.

A waste of human life! You did not connect to the Eternal One who truly created and embellished you.

Says Nanak: I was blessed when I grabbed hold of the support of the One Eternal Creator.

The essence: The body will perish; worldly relationships will also perish. There is only One Immortal Friend who will remain with you. So meditate and connect with the One Supreme Eternal Force.

The one created each individual with a body and soul. But the individual likes to adorn the body because of its visibility. He or she does not realize that it is the soul which controls the functions of the body -- intelligence, will, emotions, etc. The soul, separated from its source (God) yearns to merge with the source. The individual must realize and understand this reunion (God and soul). Human beings tend to concentrate on the material world to which the body belongs and ignore the daily Naam Simran. Merger of God and soul is only achieved through Naam Simran.
