INNI KAUR
Today’s Hukam, Darbar Sahib, Amritsar – Monday September 16, 2013
My foolish heart is in the grip of pride. By the Will of my Creator, Maya, like a witch, has swallowed my soul. || Pause || More and more, one continually yearns for more; but unless one is destined to receive, how can one obtain it? One is entangled in wealth, bestowed by the Creator; the unfortunate one attaches oneself to the fire of desires. || 1 ||
Listen, O mind, to the Teachings of the Holy Saints, and all your sins shall be totally washed away. One who is destined to receive from the Creator, O servant Nanak, shall not be cast into the womb of reincarnation again. || 2 || 2 || 19 ||
[Guru Arjan, Raag Todi, GGS:715]
In today’s Hukam, I feel Guru is asking me to cast aside my veil of illusion and seek the Truth.
The foolish mind is entangled in egotistical pride. This illusion too has been created by the Great Giver. However, you have fallen in love with the gifts and have forgotten the Giver. Reflect on what you are doing. You have attached yourself to the gifts; instead of attaching yourself to the Giver. This false illusion will devour and destroy you.
Guru’s Grace: A way to escape these fires of desire. Listen to the wisdom of the awakened beings. Follow the teachings. Your transgressions will be obliterated. You will be led from darkness to light. Your cycle of reincarnation will end.

The water, when cut off from the stream to form a separate pond, becomes dirty and unfit for human use. Similarly a person when separated from the Source (The One) becomes unfit. Human beings have a profound relationship with God because "give and take" is in His hand and therefore it is not possible to live without Him and ignore Him. Guru Nanak says: "so jeevi-aa jis mun vasiaa so-ai / Nanak avar n jeevai ko-ai" [GGS:142]. That is, "the person in whose heart God abides, lives truly and others (for spiritual and practical purposes) do not exist".
