Singh Twins Proclaimed
Liverpool's First Honorary Citizens

PRESS RELEASE

Two renowned Sikh-Briton artists from Wirral, United Kingdom - The Singh Twins, Amrit and Rabindra Kaur Singh - have been proclaimed as two of Liverpool's first honorary citizens, when awarded the newly created ‘Honorary Scouser Award' at a ceremony held at Liverpool Town Hall last week.

The award has been created by Liverpool's Lord Mayor, Steve Rotheram, to honour "unsung heroes who were born outside of the City, but have made an outstanding contribution to Scouse life"...and who feel passionate about Liverpool."

The Singh Twins who have been recognised for their ongoing promotion of the city - not least through their celebrated paintings Liverpool 800:The Changing Face of Liverpool and Arts Matters:The Pool of Life (commissioned for the Capital of Culture) as well as their recently completed animation film, The Making of Liverpool - were presented with the Honorary Scouser Award, along with a number of other "extraordinary individuals", including those from the spheres of business, media, sports, music, medicine and public service.

Lord Mayor Rotheram said: "Every single one of these individuals fully deserve this honour as they have all helped make Liverpool great and acted as tremendous ambassadors for the city."

The Singh Twins, who were born in London and have lived in the Wirral since toddlers, are delighted with their new Scouse Citizenship saying: "It is a great honour for us to receive this award. Liverpool has a rich history, list of achievements and culture that we are proud of and we have always had a personal, creative connection with the city. So, it's wonderful to be acknowledged officially in this way."
