The Power of Dasvandh

AMRIT KAUR

Dasvandh has played a very prominent part of our history since the Guru period. It is rooted in Guru Nanak’s concept of Vund Chhakna or sharing the fruits of one’s labor with others in need, and with the community at large.

The concept is based on the conviction that great things can be achieved through the power of sharing.

This is the foundation of the Dasvandh Network.

Sunday, November 20, 2016 marks the end of its annual fund-drive labelled DasvandhWeek.

Choosing when, how and, most importantly, where you’d like to contribute to the greater good can be an overwhelming decision, especially when it comes to making sure your donation gets to the right hands.  Enter Dasvandh Network, a nonprofit organization created by a group of Sikhs in the suburbs of Detroit (Michigan, USA).

The Dasvandh Network (DVN) applies the method of crowdfunding: collecting small amounts of donations from a large group of people, to be applied directly to the needs of the Sikh community.

The mission is that a donor can visit one website, www.DVNetwork.org, and peruse through the giving opportunities. These projects represent Sikh and/or other humanitarian efforts across North America in need funding. Anyone can donate to any project listed on the website, and those donations can be set up as recurring or one-time with the overarching goal in the spirit of giving back to the community.

Each November, DVN runs a week long giving campaign with the primary objective to promote and inspire others to participate in the true meaning of giving and seva. Over the past three annual 3 Dasvandh Weeks, with the help of DVN’s generous donor community and Guru’s kirpa, $400,000 was raised to power the Panth.

This year the goal is $150,000.

“DasvandhWeek continues now until November 20. During DasvandhWeek, DVN will add $100 to every new recurring donation that comes in! There are over 60 Sikh organizations and projects on the platform you can donate to. We need your support now more than ever. Let us come together as a community, to have a positive impact on our Panthic projects and causes.”
