SIKHCHIC.COM

Canada's new Defence Minister is a Sardar - Lt Col Harjit Singh Sajjan.

Canada's new Minister of Industry -- responsible for Innovation, Science & Economic Development -- is Sardar Navdeep Singh Bains. He's also The Registrar General of Canada, as well as The Keeper of The Great Seal of Canada.

Both of the above are turbaned.

Canada's new Minister of Infrastructure & Communities is also a Sikh - Amarjit Singh Sohi,

And,

A Sardarni: Canada's new Minister of Small Business & Tourism is Bardish Kaur Chagger.

Thus, four out of the 30 positions in the ruling cabinet of Canada’s federal government under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are Sikh-Canadians!

Well, I live in another country. I do not know any of them personally but I have felt really happy to know that people from my faith have been chosen in the new Canadian cabinet. I have no clue about the new Canadian PM but it gives me some idea that this guy, unlike his predecessor, believes in equality and is truly secular. I hope and wish that the elected ministers would work for their country and all its people as true Sikhs.

Congratulations to each. Well earned and deserved. A great honour for all of us Canadians!

This is great news since two of these ministers have been targets of India's disinformation campaign. The appointment of Harjit Singh Sajan to a very powerful position as Canada's Defense Minister is a very significant development for the entire Sikh diaspora. In comparison to Canada, the Sikhs in India have been victims of treachery and betrayal, and have been marginalized a in their own homeland - the very land for which they gave tremendous sacrifices to free it from centuries of slavery, defended it against foreign invaders and fed it with their blood, sweat and labor. Sikhs must reclaim their economic, political and military power on the Indian subcontinent to survive because our enemies are determined, without values, and are blindly pursuing their anti-Sikh agenda.

This is absolutely exhilarating news for Sikhs all over the world. It goes to show Sikhs have the talent, education, the determination and leadership, inherited from Guru Granth and the Panth. They have deliberately been kept down in the Indian sub-continent despite their outstanding contribution in all areas, including business and defence. I look towards the Sikhs in the UK to take a cue from Sikh-Canadians – it can be done. In the last elections, sadly, we could not elect a single Sikh MP to the House of Commons, let alone a turbaned one. Congratulations to Sikh-Canadians, indeed to all Canadians.

Not much more to say than ... Kanaada Zindabad! Dhan Dhan Sikhi!

6: Ari Singh (Sofia, Bulgaria), November 04, 2015, 7:10 PM.

Congratulations to these Ministers:) Times of India reported the story with its usual distortions. India never had more than two Sikh cabinet ministers at any given time. There are 5000 websites on Sikh jokes, especially underlying their alleged rawness, but now the Indians will realize that the joke is on them! I don't think any other community in the world can match you with this performance.

7: Brig Nawab Singh Heer (Ret) (New York, USA), November 04, 2015, 7:32 PM.

Dear All: It is an honour for the entire community worldwide. While we are under siege in India, Waheguru has blessed us in Canada. It is the duty of the community to keep our image worthy of this honour. Our think tanks need to sit together to plan and execute how best to use this great opportunity to build the community from a singular group of (possibly) as many as 17 Sikh MP's in this country's ruling party.

8: Sarvjit Singh (Millis, Massachusetts, USA), November 04, 2015, 7:53 PM.

If I am not exaggerating, this is possibly the most significant, positive and historic milestone for Sikhs worldwide in a longtime. Never before in modern history a qualified Sikh has risen as Minister of Defence for a G7 country and others to equally powerful cabinet positions. I feel honored. From the Komagata Maru incident to Ministers Harjit Singh and Navdeep Singh, speaks volumes about how Canada has transformed itself as a role model to the world. I sincerely hope that all Sikhs across the diaspora, not just in Canada, celebrate this victory. Bravo!

9: Harpreet Singh  (Delhi, India ), November 04, 2015, 8:57 PM.

'Thir ghar baiso harjan pyarey / Satgur tumrey kaaj swarey". Great news for the Sikh Panth. Great responsibility as well. All the best wishes to these Ministers and the MP's for their best performance. Thanks to the people of Canada and its government. Chardi kalaa!

10: Hardev Singh (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada), November 04, 2015, 11:41 PM.

This is a historic and proud moment for all Sikhs. We look forward to them serving their country with honor and distinction.

11: Hardev Singh (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada), November 05, 2015, 2:24 AM.

While we rejoice here, there is only heart wrenching news from India. 1984, it seems never ended but just mutated to a higher level of 'be-adbi' - desecrations.

12: Kaala Singh (Punjab), November 05, 2015, 2:01 PM.

This is a historic opportunity for this new generation of Sikhs to prove themselves and stand tall as Sikhs and Canadians. They should be remembered even when they are not around. As always, in my own sadistic style (according to some), I can't resist the temptation of making comparisons. In India, we have had a Sikh President, PM, Home Minister and a Defence Minister (Baldev Singh -- the first Defence Minister of India) and we all know what they did and how the people remember them!

13: Rup Singh  (Canada), November 05, 2015, 2:32 PM.

It's indeed a proud moment. The election of Liberals under Justin Trudeau's leadership feels like a breath of fresh air. Canada sorely needed a change. As far as Sikhs being elected and then being chosen to lead very important ministries says a lot about not only the individuals chosen but of Canada as a country. I'm confident that they will let Sikh values lead them to make the right decisions and let the world know who Sikhs are and what they are capable of. Sardar Harjit Singh having a distinguished military career and now as defence minister will certainly make the world remember Sikh gallantry, and will serve as a role model for young Sikhs around the world.

14: Talwinder Singh (USA), November 05, 2015, 4:46 PM.

Proud moment for Sikhs all over the world. May we always be in chardi kalaa!

15: Tony Singh (Canada), November 05, 2015, 9:46 PM.

The new Canadian Prime Minister did not appoint these four Sikh-Canadians as ministers for no good reason. The appointments merely recognize the political power of Sikh-Canadians in several key ridings. Make no mistake, these four individuals and the Sikh-Canadian community have earned these appointments and any political party in Canada would be wise to recognize the great enthusiasm and integrity with which Sikhs participate in the democratic political process.

16: Gurmeet Kaur (Atlanta, Georgia, USA), November 05, 2015, 11:10 PM.

Canada has most Sikhs? (It's the whining complaint of the Indian racist propaganda machine in some of the world press!) in the Cabinet of any country in the world, including India, where 30 million Sikhs make home? Punjabi? Now the third most spoken language in the Canadian Parliament (and in Canada)? Overjoyed. Chahdi Kalaa. Well done, Canada!

17: Harmander Singh (London, United Kingdom), November 14, 2015, 5:28 PM.

Firstly, this is excellent news. Congratulations to the individuals concerned and the PM too for recognizing talent, loyalty and integrity of the Sikhs. If I was not a proud Sikh-Briton, I would love to be a Sikh-Canadian (even with the Peel Police idiocy). I have been to over twenty countries; after the London Marathon, the Toronto Marathon is my favourite.
