A riot broke out at Nelliyadi village in Karnataka, 70 km from Mangalore, in South India, on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, after a Muslim barber refused to shut his shop that day.

A Bajrang Dal leader Ravi Ballya said that barber Salman refused to "respect local sentiments" and shut his barber shop on Tuesday as customary.

He said "It is well-known that Hindus don't cut their hair on Tuesdays".

Salman, according to Ballya, was brainwashed by some PFI (Popular Front of India) leaders to not shut his shop on Tuesdays and adds "he was a nice boy initially!"

Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Thukrappa Shetty said that Salman, with some friends, abused and attacked Uday Kumar, the leader of barber's association when he had gone to request Salman to shut his shop.

He also said the riot was a spontaneous reaction from the local Hindus.

Dr SD Sharanappa, the Superintendent of Police, narrated what happened - mobs leds by Ballya first attacked Salman's shop and the Jumma Masjid complex in Nellyadi village and another mob led by the PFI retaliated simultaneously and the riot broke out.

The head of the local masjid, Kempi Mustafa, accused Uday Kumar and Ballya to be responsible for creating communal tension in the area and said both of them, who have criminal charges against them, always involve themselves in activities that incite riots.

The situation of violence was controlled within in a few hours after it erupted around 4 pm, but left many people injured and property worth many hundreds of thousands of rupees destroyed.

The police has now imposed curfew in the area.

It's getting worse here by the day. I think that's good in a way because things will have to get far worse, really really bad, even hit rock bottom, before anything will begin to change. We're making 'progress', if you can call it that, because the BJP/RSS crowd thinks its a free-for-all now for them. If they carry on like this, they'll take this country to the brink. Total disaster awaits us ... but beyond that, and only past that, will there be light.

I see it as 1984 playing itself out to its inevitable conclusion. The demons unleashed then are in full play now. There is no turning back. The train is heading for the dead-end barrier at breakneck speed. Sikhs, my brothers and sisters, it's time to jump off the train, no matter how risky ... you'll be the only ones left standing if you do ... injured, but tall and unvanquished!

Sikhs should pass the word around "to prepare themselves" against the mob.
