INNI KAUR

Today’s Hukam, Darbar Sahib, Amritsar – Tuesday, October 29, 2013

Which, O which of Your Glorious Virtues should I sing and recount? You are my Creator, the treasure of excellence. I cannot express Your Glorious Praises. You are lofty and benevolent.  || 1 ||

Your Name is my only support. If it pleases You, please save me; without You, I have no other at all.  || 1 ||Pause ||

You alone are my strength, and my Court; to You alone I pray. There is no other place where I can offer my prayers; I can tell my pains and pleasures only to You.  || 2 ||

Water is locked up in the earth, and fire is locked up in wood. The lamb and the lion are kept in one place; O mortal, meditate on the One, and your doubts and fears shall be removed.  || 3 ||

Behold the glorious greatness of the Creator, O Saints; You bless the dishonored with honor. As dust rises from underfoot, O Nanak, so do You make all people fall at the feet of the Creator.  || 4 || 1 || 12 ||

[Guru Ram Das, Raag Suhi, GGS: 735]

Today’s Hukam in raag suhi -- the color of love -- speaks to me at so many levels.

You, my Creator are the treasure-house of all virtues.

You are my only support.

Without You, I have none.

You are my strength; You, I answer to; You are my Beloved.

My ardaas: You are everything for me.

There is no one that I can share my pain, my happiness besides You.

Deeper understanding: There is water beneath the earth; there is fire within wood. So, is the divine within you? Fire locked in wood, needs only an external flame to ignite it. Similarly one needs Guru to ignite the divine presence within.

The lamb and the lion are together. Meaning: Opposites are within you - positive and negative energies. Greatness and love; hatred and ego.

How to reach the treasure within?

The way: O mind, contemplate the divine.

Then what will happen?

Doubts and fears will evaporate.

Last two lines: saints, behold the greatness of the divine. Those who were once considered meek, lowly, without honor, are honored. As dust rises from the floor - those who have controlled their minds are imbued in divine love and the entire world falls at their feet.

Your support never fails.

My head bows. Much learning in today’s hukam.

We cannot sing virtues of the One unless He Himself attributes an individual to sing praise. Guru Nanak in Japji Sahib, paurri 25: "Whomsoever Waheguru blesses, a person becomes saint of saints. Waheguru is all glory and sees His creation with Oneness.
