Oedipus:
An 'Ode' to Indian Nationalism

SARBPREET SINGH

This is the second in a series of poems and essays by Sarbpreet Singh, marking the 30th year since the anti-Sikh pogroms in India and the continuing struggle to bring the 1984 mass-murderers to justice.

I love you so much

Mother

I have shed blood

To rid you of the

Cruel yoke

Now you are free

And mine alone

Pure at last

Your shackles broken

Sovereign. Shining crown

Upon your head

I have washed the shame

Of a million frenzied couplings

Off your body and your clothes

You are virtuous virginal

Mother

And I shall shed blood again

To keep you so

A well-deserved mockery of India's genocidal Hindu nationalism.
