I'm very sorry for the loss of your husband. I think sometimes in the name of law, the court denies the fact that it's only we, the humans, who have made the laws to ensure the very best for the citizens of the country. So there should always be a human approach to analyze such special cases to demonstrate that laws are to protect, not to exploit.

This a cruel misuse of governmental policy, and it is unconscionable that they would choose to act in such a fashion. Of course the man cannot drive the van 40 hours per week since he was killed while driving the van. That is the seriously sad part of the story. But to deny his wife the license to continue to drive the van, when she is willing and capable of doing so, makes it such a cruel hoax and misuse of governmental policy. The fact that there is a policy to cover review of "unusual" cases should cover this situation completely. Everything about this situation is unusual. However, it is not unusual for taxicab drivers of regular, non-handicap cabs to be shot and/or killed while on duty on American streets, so cities should already be familiar with what to do in situations when this happens. This woman should be given the license to drive the van, clear and simple. The fact that she isn't, speaks to something else. There is something else behind the scenes here, either a phobia against foreigners or something along those lines, which makes it inappropriate for him to be handling such a case if this is true. Our country is made up of nothing but foreigners, unless they are all relatives of mine, from the first nations that lived here before Columbus came by and screwed everything up here. Otherwise, everyone here is by their very nature a foreigner. So they should get past that one right away, every one here has come from somewhere else. If he is treating her badly because she has a "foreign" name, then let's throw that out on the table and get it dealt with. She still deserves the license. But to have to deal with the death of her husband and now go through this? This is torture. It is not the American way. I am ashamed of this.
