Bravo, you speak with courage and wisdom. I hope your words are not just in English but in all the Indian languages too without euphemisms to soften any terminology. Rape has nothing to do with what a woman is like or not or what she does or not, but with the rapist wanting to exert power over someone else. There are people who rape animals too. A lot of the serial killers and sexual perverts like Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Dahlmer start by torturing animals first. Can anyone argue that the animal was trying to lead them on or dressed provocatively, etc. I guess there are people on this earth who look like humans but are demons (I won't insult animals by saying they are like animals, no other animal is as wicked as the human animal). In British Columbia, Canada, the public has just been informed that a person who tortured and killed pets and wants to kill homeless people too just got out of jail. She is described as a sexual torturer by some doctors, among other things. She is a young woman in her twenties. Usually it is men but sometimes there are some women too, people like Karla Homolka who got her own sister raped and tortured and participated too. This woman is considered a danger to the public and apparently will be having a lot of restrictions placed on her including not having anyone stay at her place between 6 pm and 6 am. I do not envy whoever will be her neighbours and pray that she won't ever end up on my street. May Waheguru protect us all from evil people and change these raakash (demon) types.

An impressive, powerful and wise piece about being humiliated and raped, and doing more than surviving afterward, but thriving afterward. What better antidote to having been overpowered and controlled than to live well and become successful! Bravo, Sohaila!

Dear Sohaila, you are the most courageous of women. I hope people will learn a lesson from your story. My head bows in respect for your parents, who gave you so much support. If all parents are like this, and women as courageous as you, women would never die dowry deaths in that country.
