Though I haven't had the pleasure of knowing Menjit for as long or through his more colourful days, I did enjoy his company over the course of a few days as he and Dya introduced me to the delights of Malaysia, including Kuala Lumpur and all the way up to Taiping. Our travels together were memorable, particularly because Menjit was a wonderful host and, I must say, didn't seem to suffer from any loss of colour. Seeing the country through Dya's and Menjit's eyes was quadruple the pleasure. Now that I have read this piece ... I now somewhat understand why everybody, everywhere was so friendly and warm and hospitable. Surely Malaysians don't welcome and treat every visitor to the country so well!

This reincarnated Menjit is now to be seen at our weekly satsang convened by another Manjeet Singh ji, sitting quietly in the left hand corner with eyes closed with an 18-inch long beard, in deep meditation. Currently he is also getting his previous tooth injury fixed by another satsangi, a well known orthodontist, Dr. Trilochan Kaur, to ensure that his bite remains intact. Thanks, Dya Singh ji, for the colourful portrait of your 'Huckeberry' friend with imagination too active for his own good. What a deadly combination! It must have taken a while for Menjit, initially not too thrilled with his new life of cleanliness, manners, gurdwara and school, and despite his brutish, drunken bum thrown in for a father. Dya Singh ji, look forward to meeting you and your twin when you return from Britain in a couple of days and regale us with some more stories about your dear friend's colourful career.
