A Beautiful Place:
Sardarni Jagmohan Kaur

by INNI KAUR

In memory of my beloved mother who completed her blessed earthly journey a month ago.

SARDARNI JAGMOHAN KAUR

[November 11, 1936 - September 24, 2011]

Shukar resounds!

“A gurmukh’s ardaas is fulfilled!”

Mother left just the way she wanted.

Gentle was her passing;

Grace was bestowed.

Abundance flows from the House of Nanak.

Forehead drops.

Gratitude flows.

Yet, the pain is intense.

 I drift ...

I hear Mother’s voice:

“I am in a beautiful place; you are not to cry.”

I suffocate ...

Shabad embraces me;

Shabad cradles me.

My pain is cushioned;

I feel protected.

Guru is merciful;

Guru is kind.

What would I be without Guru ‑

A withered twig lying by the wayside.

My ardaas:

May my passing be as gentle as Mother’s.

Maava(n) thandiyaa(n) chhava(n) ... Mothers are shelters, a tree's shade over our heads in the scorching heat of life's struggles. Now you yourself are that tallest tree around, sheltering the little ones next to you. Just know that she is there in the form of the rain cloud, still looking after you. Wishing that the pain would ease and 'shukar' fill the void.

A very touching piece, straight from a very sensitive and gifted heart. My blessings!

Indeed a beautiful tribute, Inni ji. Please accept my deepest condolences. It reminds of my mother's passing away earlier this year. Believe it or not, this was the most terrible, horrific and painful experience of my life. She was in ICU for a week and every minute was a torture for me and I am sure for her too. She died of respiratory failure and of course more due to insufficient care. Here she was struggling to survive and I could only watch helplessly. A woman who had given me life and I could do nothing to give her any comfort. I am still traumatized by the loss. It is hard to get back to normal routine. I know time is a great healer and it will ease the pain one day. But reading your tribute brought tears to my eyes and I just poured my heart out. May God Almighty give you the strength to bear the loss.

Inni/Sanmeet jio: A journey that has begun must end for all of us one day. This is the ultimate reality. "Maa-ee khaat aa-io-o ghar pootaa" [GGS:495.15] - "O mother, your son has returned home with a profit." Pita ji's "Pyara Jio" would be of immense solace. "Dayh sajan aseesrhee-aa ji-o hovai sahib si-o mayl" [GGS:12.14] - "My friend, give me your blessings, that I may merge with my Lord Waheguru."

Inni ji: Everyone is in a queue for a tryst with death and seperation is inevitable. Guru Nanak reminds us: "sabhnaa marnaa aa-i-aa vaychhorhaa sabhnaa" [GGS:595]. It allows union with Waheguru. All we can do is remember the True One under whose grace every person, living or dead, is in bliss.

Very moving poetry, You have rightly understood the meaning of His Will.

Such a great singer. Especially her rendition of the kalaam of Baba Bulley Shah: "Shehar Lahore andar ..."
