Three players belonging to the same family in Punjab won two gold and a silver medal in the Inter-state athletic meet held here recently.
Harwant Kaur (Olympian discus thrower), Kuldev Singh (400 meter hurdle racer) won the gold, while Patwant Kaur (shot put) settled for the silver medal.
Born in Amritsar, Punjab, these three siblings were inspired by their elder sister Gurmeet Kaur, who is a former National Javelin thrower.
Discus thrower Harwant Kaur defended her national title with a throw of 60.66m, pushing aside the challenge from Asian Games bronze medalist Krishna Poonia (60.44m).
Her brother Kuldev got gold in 400m hurdles while her sister Patwant
got silver medal in shot put. Kuldev said that they took their initial
training from their grandfather Dalip Singh and then later joined the National Institute of Sports.
Coach Praveer Singh trains the Olympian Harwant Kaur. Presently she is focusing on her upcoming target by winning gold at the national level.
Kuldev Singh made a remarkable comeback by winning gold after suffering from an ankle injury.
"Kuldev is an impressive hurdle athlete and they expect him to perform
his best at the national level too," said Rajinder Singh,
Kuldev's coach.
