When Sat Guru Singh Khalsa was killed in a March traffic accident this year, his death had a big impact on the students he taught at Mountain Shadows Education Center (MSEC).

Eight of Sat Guru Singh's former students have since worked to transform a patch of the MSEC campus into a memorial garden.

The kids planted a tree and assorted cacti, and also included a mural of handprints.

"The kids wanted to do something to make sure Mr. K remained a part of this school and to keep his memory alive for the many lives he touched," said MSEC teacher Damien Henry, who took over Sat Guru's class following the accident.

"We are very proud of the students who took the initiative to put this garden together," added MSEC Director Kurt Decke. "Their wanting to preserve Mr. Khalsa's legacy is a testament to the fine work he did with these kids and I'm so happy others will be able to see this tribute and hear his story."
