Congratulations for penning down your beautiful memories of your time spent in Patna Sahib. This is truly inspiring on this day to reconnect with the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Wonderful!

Lovely!

Ahhh ... the imagery you have sketched with your words is beautiful. It took me back to my early experiences of being raised in different part of Punjab and India, and then choosing to live in Canada. And yes, that's when I was only a Sikh, not Jutt, Bhappa, or Ramgarhia.

What a treat. I must admit that you challenged every bit of my built-in bias towards Bihar and Biharis. Now I am tempted to visit the place. Bihar has become so caricatured that one forgets its glorious past and the fact that we have a vibrant Sikh presence there. Thanks to folks like Bawa Jaswant Singh and Mohan Singh Kalra for having had a hand in developing sikhchic.com!

Wonderful story and invigorating at this time of the birthday celebrations of our Tenth Master, Guru Gobind Singh ji.

Thanks to T.Sher Singh ji for history which is not available in common books. I worked in Ranchi, Bihar, for about 8 years. I visited Takht Patna Sahib a few times. This is a holy place to visit.

Interesting and inspiring. T. Sher Singh ji, I have seen you couple of times at Guru Granth Sahib Academy in your simple attire, but I missed your speech which you gave to our Sikh Youth Camp in 2009 at the academy. My daughter who was volunteering in the camp gave me the recording of your speech and now all such speeches are made available on line at the academy web-site, including yours. Here is the link. http://www.ggsacademy.com/youth/camp/camp6-2009

You might have been the chosen one that Guru Gobind Singh found suitable. Wherever there's a city connected with Him, it still holds his memory. I remember my Nanaji once told me he went to Hazoor Sahib and lost his way in the large gurdwara. Suddenly the air turned cold and he knew he was not alone. He soon found his way back but he did indeed see Guru ji. He was tall and very, very handsome. Armed with the usual kirpan and some arrows, the Guru was indeed walking around. People have experienced this before in Nanded when they are most alone, not only my Nanaji. In fact my Nanaji is a Giani in our local gurdwara. Whether the Guru tried to say something, he did not know.

On the day of your birth, there must have been a thousand more born on that day. How many have had the blessings of the kind of parents that Waheguru ordained to sire you. It was that gurmukh parvar that held your little finger that guided you on a rightful course. Remember the story of the Bibi who took her young son to be admitted in a well known seminary for a righteous upbringing? The sant ji (no, it wasn't a 'Sacha Sauda' type) said to the Bibi that she was at least 25 years late. The training should have started with her. The child had already become worldly smart. Thanks, Sher ji, for sharing those lovely memories twice, when they first occurred, and now in reflection of those memories vivid enough to become a precious painting such as the one you have painted. Let's have a painting of your parents that shaped the legacy you inherited.

These fascinating articles remind me of the following lines from a popular song I loved to sing along with other students of Khalsa High School, Kila Raipur, when marching in a jaloos to celebrate Guru Gobind Singh Ji's Gurpurab: 'Ik baaz sunehri aaiya/ Janam Guru da Patna Sahib da/ Anandpur dera laaiya ...'

Thank you. T Sher Singh ji, for your brilliant account! If ever there was a real Saviour, here was one!

I would simply like to thank-you for the humor, yet again: "As I stood under the glare, my legs would start shaking uncontrollably, until they were numb and all sensation was lost. As I struggled to hide the trembling in my voice, my next worry would be ... how was I going to get back down the stairs and back to my seat, if I couldn't even feel my legs!"
